The Academy Awards will soon be upon us. Every now and then they get it right. And the music that accompanies the films stay with us forever. Here are a few of my favourites, but chosen only from the “Best Picture” category.
What would you add? I’ll allow music from the “Best Score” category too..
I deleted that last one.
ReplyDeleteThe link was rubbish, it came from my mobile.
This one should be better
Don't follow film.
But there are loads of great soundtrack.
So you may have opened the floodgates.
After Dark from Dusk Till Dawn
Phone Call from Desperado
Exodos Theme from Spartacus
Maria from West Side Story
Theme from Lawrence of Arabia
And of Course The Dam Busters and 633 Squadron
The Dam Busters
633 Squadron
Oooh Yes also ......
Brassed Off - Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez
That's the actual clip ... Brilliant English Film at it's best!
There's loads and loads more.
You may have to blacklist me.
And here is one more...
ReplyDeleteI promise to stop now ... probably I warned you
Ecstasy of Gold from The Good The Bad and the Ugly - Ennio Morricone :)
I'll allow "Brassed Off" - but only because it's got Pete Postlethwaite's performance in it.
Delete:-)
My point being, that a lot of great films and music don't make it to the awards.
ReplyDeleteLove it dude. Smashing choices.
ReplyDeleteI had fun scrolling through over eighty years of "Best Pictures" and sifting through the music...
DeleteThinking about a Desert Island Discs post for next month...
No where near making my mind up yet though! Re-done the list three times so far.
I dare not start thinking along those lines. The cds would be all over the floor and everywhere.
DeleteThat's exactly the problem. Then, when you think you have narrowed it down to, say, 20, along pops another three or four that you can't possibly miss out...
DeleteThat's why I've stopped.
DeleteOther things to do!
And the island isn't big enough :)
2001 - Ok Strauss 1896
Bugger!
Oooh - Yes!
DeleteMy favourite theme tune is 'Jazz, Delicious Hot, Disgusting Cold' by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band from Guesthouse Paradiso:

oh yes!
Dear Lord, Alistair! I can see why you live on an island out at sea! No close neighbours, then?
Delete:-)
Top band.
ReplyDeleteI have all their albums!
Canyons of your Mind - Mad
I shall go and have words with the Verger. I am not sure we can allow this tosh in here?
Delete:-)
Music like art is very subjective.
ReplyDeleteSo Alistair and I will accept your opinion.
Even if we disagree with it.
Now. Back to the films.
The music by Bernard Herrmann from Taxi Driver. Minatory, sleazy, melancholy.
ReplyDeleteI hadn't even thought of that one Peter - but yes - brilliant: Here's the link for the terminally lazy amongst the congregation: TAXI DRIVER
