And, happily, it’s now all snugly packed in the rucksack that you can see at the bottom of the picture. I shall be taking my foot left separately, alongside its missing friend, my right foot.

Not both together, you understand. I shall not be kangaroo hopping across Scotland.

  1. I hope you dismounted from that chair safely after taking the photograph.

    1. Possibly the most dangerous blog photo ever published, Geoff.

    1. Hi Anon.
I'll have you know that those brothel creepers are a highly developed river crossing/hotel shoe/campsite system.

  3. Enjoy it and savour every step.

Some of that stuff needs to be slipped into other peoples' rucksacks until it's needed. It will help them with their stamina and they'll thank you in the long run.

    1. Hi Dave
I just wish I had seen your comment before I had set out. That's a splendid idea, Sir.!
As it is the rucksack just seemed to get heavier as the walk progressed.
Perhaps Phil & Andy had had the same idea...

  4. That all looks about as organised as it's possible to get. :)

    1. Thanks Scott
That was the best it ever looked. It was down hill all the way on the walk - the rucksack looking like a badly filled sack of spuds.

  5. Hi Alan, I have enjoyed reading your past endeavours and wish you an enjoyable and safe TGO (I'm not a challenger btw). I like the photo of all your TGO gear. What would be interesting would be if could edit the photo to assign numbers to the objects and tie this back to your gear list.

It always amazes me how lean some of the packs look and I'd be interested to compare your gear to the gear I use. Being able to visualize it using the photo would be good.

    1. Hi Graeme
Thank you for your good wishes.
I've seen the sort of indexed pictures you mention, but I'm afraid I'm a techie-dunce. I will however list what's inside the bags as they're pretty easy to identify as they are in columns. I'll do that for you later today with an addendum to this post.

    1. Thank you, Steph.
I got back home last night so there will be posts up soon to describe our walk.

  8. I can't help thinking, Alan, that you could lighten your load considerably if you were to ditch all of those individual stuff sacks!

Inside my pack I had but three compression sacks (one for clean clothes, one for laundry and one for my sleeping bag and liner) and one further bag for the sleep mat ... as to the necessity of which I still remain to be convinced!
