Pairing my Nokia folding keyboard with a mobile phone

Using Blogger's own software I'm trying to post to the blog using my newish mobile phone (a budget job, a Moto G4, seeing as you asked) paired with my old Nokia SU-8W folding keyboard.

My phone has quite a large - 5.5 inch - screen with a fairly decent resolution. This means I can now read blogs without using the mobile phone version of the blog, which makes reading blogs on the phone a far better experience. Following from this I reasoned to myself that it should also be possible to post to the blog using the original version of Blogger rather than its mobile phone App.

THE LOCAL PATCH IN THE WET

Even with a large screen, I still find it tricky using the phone's small keyboard, continually mis-typing. That's why I'm pairing it with the fold-out keyboard. I believe that this will result in better blog posts - if you believe that more of my paragraphs results in better posts, and that's a stretch...

I think there are two advantages of doing this rather than using Blogger's own mobile app. The first should be the ability to position and size the pictures where and when I like, whilst being able to see the pictures. With the old app I used, Bloggeroid, I couldn't see the pictures, which meant that on a long post with quite a few pictures I would have to remember which I had posted, which proved tricky at times. The second is that when using Blogger I can left and right justify text, which I prefer to simply left-justified text. I know others prefer left justified, so this is a purely personal preference.

BROTHER DAVE, SISTER PIP, AND ME

So here goes.  Let's see if it works. And, it appears to have worked - including a picture edit.

    1. It's Blogger's own software Al: Blogger in the version you would use on your home computer.

  2. Sounds like an ingenious form of masochism to me. I do like the atmospheric first photo.

    1. I've tentative plans for another very big trip in 2018, Conrad, so I'm trying to sort out a way of blogging decent posts on the hoof, rather than the short stabs I made back in 2007 on my LEJOG. And that means a decent keyboard and decent blogging software.
Of course, it also means broadband access every few days, which also didn't exist in 2007.

  3. Right. I have used it in the past. Sorry, I thought blogger had released a new slim version. Wishful thinking on my part.

    1. Blogger has improved quite a bit these days, Al. I now prefer it to any other blogging tool.

    2. I've never found it a problem and often wondered why folk needed to use anything else. I suppose it depended on how old the phone was, they have improved too.

  4. I find the virtual keyboard on my phone much harder to use than the physical one on my previous BlackBerry, even though I've had it almost a year now.

Like Conrad I love that first photo.

    1. My previous phone was a Nokia E90 Communicator (made of steel girders) which had a physical keyboard - buttons that you actually pressed. It worked so much better than virtual keyboards on these glass phones. Hence the folding keyboard, Gibson. It's a super piece of kit.

    2. Hi Alan. I assume the phone OS is Android. Is the keyboard compatible with Apple's iOS?

I mentioned the 'first photo' but you do look cute in the second one -:)

    3. Hi Gibson
It was designed to be paired to Nokia phones, but works perfectly with my Android Lenovo Moto G4. It also worked well with my old Android Samsung S4 Mini. I don't know if it works with Apple phones, but after a quick Google I found a number of folding keyboards that all had good reviews that definitely do work with Android and Apple's stuff.

      All seem very reasonably priced.

      Good luck, Sir.
      :-)

    4. Thanks Alan. I did Google before commenting but
a recommendation from a user is always valuable I feel. Lots of the keyboards seem to be compatible only with iPads or other tablets. Thanks again -I'll have another look.
