LOCAL HERO

I am back on the settee again. The settee is my friend. I am relaxing after designing a long walk. I have polished off the last of the Christmas Montrachet with Lynnie and am back on a little Laphroaig. I have caught the last hour of ‘Local Hero’. It is magnificent. Gordon and Mac have just been calling Mr Happer in the States from the World Famous phone box with the Aurora Borealis lighting up the night sky following the dance in the village hall (I can’t spell “ceilidh” and MS Word isn’t helping me).

That is typical of computers. They do not help you. They are there to bring you down to reality. Watching one of the all time greats on telly and it won’t spell “Ceilliedh” for you.

Back to the film and the Northern Lights. I have never seen the Aurora Borealis in the twelve years I have walked through Scotland. It’s not for the want of trying. Maybe it’s because I have mostly been pointing East in my quest for Montrose. At night I am usually tucked up in my little tent and oblivious to everything.

This time I am going to be in Scotland for two months. Mostly I will be pointing north. Maybe this is the year I will finally get to see the lights. If I do, you will be the first to know. Promise.

  2. What a wonderful trip. You are right Stu - I would never make it to 'The North' if I stepped in just one of these fine establishments.

BTW, I did like you dissertation on Einstein's Birthday. Einstein was right - Stu rocks.

  3. Hello Alan,
I do much of my training on the sofa, although it's more often in the company of a full-bodied Shiraz, or 'a drop of the crétúr' as they say in Ireland. Except, that is, when I'm at a céilí when I have been known to participate in something silly. Hope you're well.
