Lost Property

Every now and then you stumble across a gem.

Lost Property

These past three days I have listened avidly to The Afternoon Play on BBC Radio 4. It was a trilogy: “Lost Property” by Katie Hims.  Have a listen. The Beeb at its very best.

Part 1: The Wrong Label

Part 2: The Year My Mother Went Missing

Part 3: A Telegram from the Queen

  2. I have just spent 2 evenings listening to the 3 plays on BBC iPlayer. Maudlin, maybe too many coincidences - but great radio listening. It appears Katie Hims has written a lot for radio in recent years - I will look out for her name

  3. Alas the links to part 2 and 3 are now dead.
I started to listen to "The year my mother..." at weekend but I was interrupted. I listened to the, The wrong label, tonight and only when the dress with strawberries on it was mentioned that I realised the stories were linked. Now I shall have to await their return to Radio.

    Essai.

I am sorry to hear that. It was an excellent series and I am sure it will be repeated. After all, the Beeb does have a lot of repeats, so let's hope they repeat this series smartish!

  4. The 3 plays are available for download via bit torrent at the fantastic radioarchive.cc. http://www.radioarchive.cc/torrents-details.php?id=12250 Along with another 3 of her R4 plays: Earthquake Girl, Lilo and Dragonfly. If you're a speech radio fan it's a real goldmine.

    1. Sorry about the double post, I was connecting via VPN through Taiwan as blogspot is blocked in Mainland China, so when the popup saying the comment would be visible after approval came up it was in Chinese characters which I don't read and I thought my comment had been lost in the ether! Loved the Big Walk gallery by the way, great to see the green and pleasant land from bottom to top like that! Have to admit to being a tad envious of someone who has the time to make such a journey.. one day....

    2. Hi Simon - you must be the blog's most easterly member of the congregation!

I sometimes wander back through my LEJOG pictures as well... Britain is a fabulous little country with a wonderful range of countryside and people.

      Do you get back often?

    3. Could be Alan, I'm in Qingdao on China's East coast, 5,442 miles (as the crow flies) to Seaford, East Sussex. I've not been in England since summer 2008, so a visit is long over due. Mind you, it's far from unpleasant here on the Shandong Peninsula, between the mountains and the Yellow Sea. But China, being on the scale that it is, both physically and in terms of population density, lacks cosy immediacy of the UK.
