The Beau Brummell of the TGO Challenge…

On these long stravaigs through MAMBA* country, in order to operate at peak efficiency, us gurrls need to look our best. However, recently the TGO Fashion Police have noticed a touch of shabbiness creeping in around the edges of this suave sophisticate's attire.

The problem started when I acquired a very bright new Gore-Tex jacket,  and was made worse when the very smart new fleece arrived, With these new pieces, the aesthete within felt there was a little something missing. Besides, the fleece was now beginning to lose it’s shape (That’s quite enough at the back, thank you - It is *definitely* the fleece!) It was time for a reappraisal of the wardrobe. The ensemble needed lifting – perhaps a few accent colours? It was time to accessorize!

Along came the TGO Challenge newsletter, and with it the “once in a lifetime opportunity” to purchase a custom designed TGO Challenge RAB Boulder Fleece! At forty three of the Pieman’s Imperial Pounds it was a snip, and in a very slimming black, it would complement my Patagonia Simple Guide Pants, in their fetching, slimming… black.

Like Boris’s Buses, monumental decisions like these come along in threes. No sooner had the ink dried on the cheque written to the Deppity’s Retirement Fund, than I found myself a prize-winner of Terra Nova Equipment’s twitter account. With a large nudge from Robin ‘Bloody Wonderful’ Evans, it was decided, that as I was Terra Nova’s 1000th twitter follower, (don’t ask – if you don’t “do”  twitter you’ll never begin to understand!) a prize should be awarded.

After a chat on the phone with Jon at Terra Nova HQ, we settled on some accessories that would set off the new outfit to best effect! Cinderella could go to the ball after all!

And sure enough, a few days later a parcel arrived.

It included:

A folding Pocket Hat, but with a difference – it has an additional zip off neck sun cape and it’s not in Gore-Tex, but a natty UPF50 sun protection material. It came of course, in a stunning… black

A pair of Sticky Thinnies gloves, in….. black, and

a pair of wind resistant Boreas gloves, in…. dark grey.

They also lobbed in a couple of mini crabs and a natty little bottle opener.

In fact, all the accessories a well turned out gurrl on the TGO Challenge could ever hope for! So, with a new fleece, hat and gloves, all in a colour-way that will enhance the outfit, I am all set to take on MAMBA!.

And in the spirit of Old Mortality, here’s a little music that I know someone will enjoy with her Glenmorangie and Haynes Manual…

  1. Wot? No fashion shots of the Man In Black?
Is 'Naturally' the very best album of all time? Maybe - can't say I've listened to all of them, or even half as many as Old Mortality. 'Naturally' always makes me smile, anyroad.

  3. Lies,lies, lies, I tell you.
Anyhow, from the pics I have seen, the Sloman Sartorial Style is more Bo Diddley than Beau Brummel

    1. I seem to recall Bo Diddley was a bit of a snappy dresser, in his day...

  4. Well that video clip that you posted of JJ Cale and Eric Clapton was just great. I like a classy bit of guitar playing. In my opinion, the only rival to "Old Slowhand" Clapton was the great Trevor Oakes who used to strum for Showaddywaddy back in the '70s. Sadly, he is no longer playing with that sophisticated musical outfit; nor is vocalist Dave Bartram still with them. This is a particular disappointment for me as I have a much sought after ticket to see them this July in Shrewsbury on their world tour of the West Midlands. Eat your heart out music fans, it aint for sale.

PS Doesn't dressing all in black give you the appearance of a down at heel undertaker? Should you get a top hat to finish off the outfit?

I would hang on that ticket. You'll have to fight them off, you know.

"Down at heel?" I'll have you know my Scarpas have well over a thousand miles left in them yet!
