EIGHT

  • Eight years old today. Born 17th October 2006
  • One thousand and sixty one blog posts
  • Ten thousand, one hundred and twenty one comments.
  • Most read post? No, not a gear post. TGO Challenger 2013 Home page with 10,714 hits
  • According to sitemeter.com, there has been 322,699 unique visitors to the blog
  • and 553,502 page views over the eight years.

    1. Thank you Brian.
I've just found your Bedford Rights of Way blog - My word, you've been busy. Top marks, Sir.
I've added it to my blogroll so others can read and perhaps support your efforts as well.

  3. Happy birthday from me an' all.

Actually had a few pangs of guilt about your blog recently, Al: I've found myself replying to other commenters on here, particularly where those spinning things are concerned; in effect that's like having a conversation on somebody else's blog, whether they like it or not.

It just struck me that it leaves you will al the moderating and administration to take care of and it could become like those book groups that always meet in the same person's front room, burn their heating, eat their biscuits and then leave them the washing up.

I suppose at least this way you can keep your eye on us. Many happy returns again.

I think we see eye to eye on the useless whirlygigs.
Besides, I hide all the best biscuits to have later.

  5. Congratulations. Did you know that your blog is a Libra? I looked up a horoscope casting for it, which goes as follows:

    Synopsis:

You and a partner or rival are still arguing quite a bit. The good news is that this is the end of it and you are probably going to find some kind of a resolution. It may or may not be the one you want, but you are definitely going to bring this bickering to a close. Someone among your social connections may be able to play mediator and help the two of you find common ground. You are also feeling very productive at home and you are able to rework your household budget in a way that helps you to make progress towards your financial goals.

    Lucky vehicle - Nissan Micra.

Make of that what you will. (I made up the bit about the Micra btw). I was intrigued by the opening sentences. Have you been tweeting Chris Townsend again?

    1. Ha!
Caught you looking up your horoscope again!
I shall set Miss Whiplash on you. It will probably be messy. I can't see you trading in the Beemer for the Micra, though.
I'll have you know that CT and I are on very good terms at the moment. We've recently made a fresh start.
There's nothing at all in these daft horoscope things...
      Maybe.

  8. Well done Alan, I am always impressed by your commentaries as well as your "Lets get on with it" approach to life. I am looking forward to your TGO 20 crossing and then your explorations into foreign lands, btw Watch out for the Trolls. : )

    1. My "let's get on with it" approach to life...
I hadn't thought about that before. I suppose I could spout the usual rubbish about life and lemons but I prefer
It's been said "We are living in a world today where lemonade is made from artificial flavors and furniture polish is made from real lemons."
Mind you, the same bloke also said
"Crime does not pay as well as politics" which I think has far more of a ring of truth about it.

The Trolls. Are they the great big warty chaps that hide under bridges with clubs and go about menacing folk? That'll be Lord Elpus, then. I'm well used to dealing with him.

  9. Hi Alan,

Thanks for your effort in keeping this blog up and running. Though I have been occupied lately with quite different matters, my main interests are still connected to the " big walk of life". I hope I can continue to follow you progress.

I'm still wrestling with idea's to share my own walk some how, thanks for keeping me inspired.

    2. Hi Alan,

No Challenge in 2015 for me, so I have to miss your 20th alas. I'm learning to teach. mainly logistics and business management in the agricultural and food domain. Very interesting. The best thing is I get to talk with young people about all the major issues in the great outdoor as well.

      Good luck on your 20th.

I enjoy using the blog as a bit of a diary - I read some trip reports the other day from six years ago that I had totally forgotten about! It's an age thing.

    1. What, my excellent (koff) RAB Boulder Fleece, Keith?
How could I ever have missed mentioning that excellent piece of kit from those awfully nice threatening bastards over at at RAB, eh? That ought to be worth a blog post all in itself, really, I would have thought...
If they don't like my review, perhaps they should comment on here rather rather than...
No - I'll leave that for another post, unless those AWFULLY NICE PEOPLE OVER AT RAB can bring themselves to apologise to me a bit bloody quickly...
