TGO Challenge 2015: Kit List

It’s a monster!

I’m expecting crappy cold weather for the first week or so, so I’m carrying lots of warm clothes. And the food bag – well! The bastard weighs 2.92kg – and in real money that’s 6lbs 7ozs. I hate being hungry.

The First Aid Kit is equally massive, but quite a bit of that are meds that’ll keep me alive, so I don’t begrudge it too much…

Here it is then – slightly heavier than last years:

TGO Challenge 2015 Kit list

If you click on it, it should blow up in a new window at a super-duper size.

Right then – Time for a spot of lunch, and then it’s off to meet up with the boys and girls in the Bree Louise in Euston, before clambering aboard the sleeper to Inverness and thence onwards to Shiel Bridge.

  1. Good luck Al. It was a surprise to see you are still using that leaking Temperance 11 jacket though.

    1. It's only Mr Walker who thinks it leaks, 'cos he doesn't understand the layering system.

    2. It also wasn't proofed properly, which it is now.
I used it most of the winter and it was fine, inc Lakes and Gorms trips as welll as on Norfolk Coastal Path.
Anyway, now I have to use a layering system cos I is no longer a fat git init.

    1. Hmm - My rely appears not to have been published: Here's another bash!

Sorry for the late reply, Ian - you posted this after I had set off for Scotland. We had all possible combination of weather thrown at us this year - freezing cold wind (for a lot of the time), hot sunshine (first two days) all day-long driving rain (all too often), snow and hail. The gear coped admirably with the lot.
We didn't have any blood sucking bats though...

    1. Ah - it was indeed Challenging! Mostly perishingly cold. The odd week or so of driving rain. Snow. Hail. And bright sunshine.
But all good brilliant fun, Alex.

  6. I am mortified that I missed this list when it was posted ad so I could not do a forensic comparison with my own, which is a perverted hobby of mine.

I am clearly very unobservant, though. I was convinced you had a beardy thing on your face but here you have a shaving kit included. I must stop staring lovingly into your eyes when I next see you and instead check out your chin to see the real level of beardyness.

    1. I'm not sure the congregation is interested in your perversions, David.
      Oh. Hang on...
      Yes, apparently they are.
This bumfluff perversion of yours... You mean to say that all that hacking and shaping and trimming and nurturing have all gone un-noticed all these years? Were it not for the shaving kit my beard would cover my face. All you would be able to see would be a pointy nose and two piggy eyes peeking out of a tangled grey matt of hair.
      I'm hurt, Sir.

    1. Hi Chris!
      :-)
I've not been a well man since I got back from the Challenge - but I think I'm recovering now. I have been sifting through the piles of Polaroids and chucked away a good half of them and am now thinking of cutting up a few to just take the good bits. I shall rub them between my fingers to increase the contrast/ colours, depending on how I rub.
Then it will just be a case of sellotaping them in the right order into the album and adding a few choice phrases.
That can't be too difficult, having re-read a few of my later TGO Challenge efforts...
A bit like buses, I'm sure a few will be along in time, but probably nose to tail...

      Hope that clears things up!

  9. Hi Alan, I keep checking into your blog and not finding anything. Then I check the dreaded Twatter. Glad to see/hear that you are still with us. I hope whatever is laying you low will have finished its predations and lumbered off into the wide blue turbine-scythed yonder by the time I finish typing this. Big hug.

    1. I had a bit of a bug halfway through the TGO Challenge, but since I've been home it's come back with a vengeance. I've spent quite a few afternoons snoozing and just feeling completely washed out.

  10. I mentioned to Laura you hadn't seemed quite yourself, maybe that had something to do with it. Hope you're feeling better now my lovely, but crack on with the write up! The suspense is killing me (elastics too tight...)
